IPL. Indian Premier League. I think this is the biggest thing that has ever happened to cricket in the world. This is the 3rd season & the entire country is going crazy. And surprisingly the TAM study shows that female viewership has increased drastically since last year. What’s there in IPL that everything else stops when a match is on? Let’s analyze. They say the only two things that can make this nation go crazy are cricket & bollywood. And IPL has both. Country’s biggest bollywood star owns an IPL team. What’s more? Country’s richest man owns a team. Country’s biggest liquor baron owns a team. So much so forth even Team India’s official sponsor couldn’t keep itself away from IPL inspite of the fact that they had the National team in their kitty. So now here’s the Sahara Group who own the most expensive IPL team. The attraction is so strong that many international players who have retired from first class cricket are playing here & are performing like never before. Sachin who doesn’t play T-20 cricket for India has become the highest run scorer & has brought his team on the top of the tally.

Another thing that makes IPL a big hit is that every team has Indian players. So every match becomes interesting since some or the other favorite player is playing. And when Sachin is playing, no matter what city one lives in & supports, one cheers for Sachin only. The live example was this Delhi & Mumbai match being played in Delhi. A friend had gone to watch the same & as it could be seen, inspite of it being the delhi crowd, the entire stadium was cheering for Sachin when he hitting fours & sixes. Well the home team lost but crowd was nonetheless happy having seen Sachin play one of his brilliant knocks.

Another big plus point with IPL is that it’s the shortest form of cricket & therefore even the non-avid followers of the game don’t mind spending some time & becoming part of this madness.

Different people have different reasons to support any particular team. As in my case, I’m a big KKR fan. Well honestly it has nothing to do with the players or their class but has everything to do with the owner. Yes since Shah Rukh Khan owns KKR, I support them. I place them even above DD. And yes, this might shock you, above MI too. Though am a big fan of Sachin but SRK beats everyone. I sometimes wish Shah Rukh had bought MI & then it would’ve been a deadly combination for me. But then I can just wish. My sister supports RR ‘coz they were the underdogs in the 1st season & they went on to win and now she supports them in every season.

I want KKR to outplay everyone this season & go on to win. They started very well but just after winning two games, their losing streak started & brought them down to the bottom four. I was happy when they won the last match & I just hope this continues now. Shah Rukh & KKR rock. And so does IPL.
